Filing for November Ballot Begins at Noon Friday, July 1

The one-month filing period for elected office in Holly Springs begins at noon Friday, July 1, and will close promptly at noon Friday, Aug. 5.

Three seats for councilman and the mayor's chair will be up for election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Current seat holders are Council men Ernie Pearson, Chet VanFossen and Hank Dickson and Mayor Dick Sears.

To be eligible for elected office, a candidate must be a qualified registered voter residing in the Town of Holly Springs. Candidates may file in person either in the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall, 128 S. Main Street between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or at the Wake County Board of Elections office, located at 339 S. Salisbury Street in Raleigh. The filing fee at both locations is $50.

Elections in Holly Springs are non-partisan, and officials are elected by popular at-large vote. In the November election, the top three vote-getters in the council race will win seats on the Town Council. The top single vote-getter in the mayoral race will win.

Those elected will be sworn into office on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Members of the town's governing body are expected to attend and participate in regular meetings held at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month and at other times, as needed. The Town Council is charged with setting policy, adopting laws and otherwise making decisions that affect the community as a whole. For their service, elected officials receive small monthly stipends of approximately $470 each.
