Holly Springs Public Works Employees Gain State Certification
Certification Helps Employees Keep Water and Wastewater Flowing

After a week-long course and an exam, two Town of Holly Springs Public Works crew leaders responsible for maintaining the Town's water distribution and wastewater collection systems recently gained state certification for their jobs.

Larry Parks, a Town employee for more than two and a half years, was certified as a Grade 1 Water Pollution Control Collection Systems Operator. Dalton Echols , who has worked with Holly Springs for just more than a year, also was certified as a Grade 1 Water Pollution Control Collection Systems Operator. Echols also was certified as a Water Distribution Operator/C-Distribution.

“The training they received from working to get this certification helps them not only in knowing about the systems they work with; it also helps them with supervisory skills,” said Luncie McNeil , Public Works Department director.

The week-long certification course covers everything from the water purification treatment process to how to make repairs to the different types of pipes and pumps involved with water and wastewater distribution and collection. To be certified after completing the course, participants must pass a comprehensive exam.

Holly Springs Public Works, a division of 27 employees, has four crew leaders. In addition to Parks and Echols, who oversee the water and wastewater distribution and collection systems, other crew leaders oversee street maintenance and sanitation/yard waste collection.
