Town Employees Deliver Angel Tree Gifts 12/22/06

Town employees helped deliver gifts this week as part of the Angel Tree effort to brighten Christmas for 321 needy children who live or go to school in Holly Springs.

The project was coordinated through local schools, the Southwest Wake YMCA, and the Town of Holly Springs. Volunteers from the schools, YMCA and Town delivered the gifts.

Beginning in late November, Town residents selected angel ornaments from the tree in the Town Hall lobby. The ornaments had gift wishes, ages and clothing sizes for children from families in need. Residents returned with wrapped gifts.

"It's just wonderful to see how our residents truly care for one another, even if they don't know them personally," said Annmarie Forbis, administrative specialist in the Town's Human Resources Department.

Two children from one family had begun saving money since summer so they could buy gifts for children who otherwise might not receive gifts. The two children selected ornaments from the angel tree and returned with gifts that they wrapped themselves.

Another couple adopted an entire family in gratitude for how strangers had helped them at Christmas years earlier.

"They stated someone helped us when we were down and out now it's our turn to "pay it forward," Forbis said the couple explained.
