Opportunities Abound for Seniors in Holly Springs

From free transportation to the fair on Senior Day to an organized trip to a casino in the mountains to weekly visits at area attractions, outing opportunities for Holly Springs seniors are abundant, thanks to the Town Parks & Recreation Department. A variety of Parks & Recreation programs and events are drawing a regular crowd of local seniors. Below are a few of the upcoming workshops and outings.

Freedom Friday Morning Outings

Usually from 9:15 a.m. - noon on Fridays, these outings provide free transportation on the Holly Springs van to area attractions. With the holiday season just around the corner, seniors won’t want to miss the outing to the Morrisville outlet mall for holiday crafts and shopping on Nov. 19. Other upcoming outings include Walmart in Fuquay-Varina on Dec. 3, Kohls and BJ’s in Cary on Dec. 10, and Target on Dec. 17. Foster Grandparent Program and Retired Senior Volunteer Program

Foster grandparents are welcome to assist children with homework, social skills and other activities during the after-school program at the Hunt Community Center. The Holly Springs van is available to transport participants from their homes to the community center. Call (919) 557-9602 to find out how you can help.

50+ Living, Laughing & Learning Club

A new club is forming that will focus on issues that can contribute to happy and healthy lives. Club meetings at the Hunt Community Center will include guest lecturers and cover a broad range of topics, and meetings will conclude with a simple lunch of deli meats, cheese, bread, chips, beverages and cookies. The first meeting on Nov. 9, to be guided by a yoga instructor, will discuss the benefits of stretching and will teach participants how to stretch safely. Each meeting is $3.50 or one fitness coupon.
