5/19/04 Town Thanks Residents for Recycling Phone BooksThe numbers are in! Holly Springs residents recycled 12 tons of phone books at a telephone book recycling station that was set up for two months earlier this year. The Towns of Morrisville, Zebulon and Wendell also recycled 12 tons of phone books this year. Fuquay-Varina recycled nine tons, and Wake Forest recycled five tons, as well. Knightdale, with a population of about 7,000, is the only Wake County Town with a smaller population than Holly Springs to recycle more phone books. The Holly Springs telephone book recycling station was set up next to the igloos for common recyclables in the paved parking lot directly across Ballentine Street from Town Hall. The telephone book recycling station was available from Feb. 16-April 16. Because phone books have glued bindings, they cannot be recycled at residential curbsides with other common household recyclables. “I’d like to thank residents for going out of their way to recycle phone books this year,” said Luncie McNeil, director of the Holly Springs Public Works Department. “The amount of phone books recycled reflects our residents’ commitment to preserving our environment.” Other than Raleigh and Cary, which recycled 297 and 114 tons, respectively, other Towns recycling more tons of phone books this year than Holly Springs include: Apex, 49 tons; Garner, 28 tons; and Knightdale, 14 tons. For more information about recycling, contact the Town of Holly Springs Public Works Department at (919) 552-5920, or visit the Town’s recycling website at www.thebin.us. |
