Pearson to be Appointed to Holly Springs Town Council
Taylor's Term to be Completed by Former Town Attorney

During its Aug. 3 meeting, the Holly Springs Town Council accepted the resignation of Councilman Mike Taylor and voted to request former Town Attorney Ernie Pearson to fill the position. Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears contacted Pearson Aug. 4, and Pearson accepted the nomination. He will be sworn in at the Aug. 17 meeting.

Taylor was originally appointed by the Town Council to finish the term of John Schifano, who resigned from the board in August, 2003, to become the Town’s attorney. In November, 2003, Councilman Steve Tedder resigned because he was moving out of town. The Town Council then moved Taylor to Tedder’s seat. Schifano’s term ended in December, 2003, and Parrish “Ham” Womble was elected to the position.

Taylor is resigning because he and his family are moving out of town. In his resignation letter, he wrote, “You all have a great deal of good work to continue, on behalf of Holly Springs, and I wish I could be here to assist. We will truly miss Holly Springs!”

In the Town Council’s Aug. 3 meeting, councilmen discussed several potential replacements for Taylor, whose term will end in December, 2005. Pearson was chosen following a 3-1 vote in which Councilman Womble supported his nominee, former Holly Springs Mayor Gerald Holleman. Pearson had served as the Town attorney for nearly six years.
