Womble Park Parking Lots and Stinson Avenue to be Paved
While Under Construction, Parking Lots and Portion of Avenue to be Closed to Vehicles

In April, construction will begin on a much-anticipated project that will include the paving of two parking lots in Parrish Womble Park. The paved parking lots will help organize vehicular traffic and will result in a safer park. In addition, the gravel road that leads from the paved portion of Stinson Avenue near the community center through the park to the paved portion of Stinson in the Remington subdivision will be converted into a paved road with a curb and gutter, as well as speed humps and crosswalks. The paved parking lots in the park will connect to this road. A sidewalk will be constructed between the road and the park land, and streetlights along the road and in the parking lot will be installed.

Beginning in mid-April, while the parking lots and road are under construction, they will be closed to vehicles. Construction is expected to be complete in August. In the meantime, the parking lot off Grigsby Road near the baseball fields in the upper portion of the park and the parking lot behind the community center will be available.

The paved parking lots and roadway complete another piece of Womble Park 's master plan, the original design for the park that was approved shortly after the park land was purchased in 1997. As money becomes available, different segments of the park's master plan are constructed. Tennis courts and additional paved walking trails are other parts of the park's master plan that are scheduled to receive funding in upcoming years.

Once completed, the new parking lots will hold 135 vehicles. The Engineering Department, with assistance from the Town's Planning and Zoning Department and the Parks and Recreation Department, designed the road and parking lots. Stephanie Sudano, director of the Holly Springs Engineering Department, estimated that the Town saved more than $100,000 by designing and administrating construction of the project in-house. Construction on the $490,000 project will be completed by Asphalt Experts. Engineering Department staff will oversee and administer construction inspections for the project.

“Paving the parking lots and the road that goes to them will make this park an even nicer place to visit,” said Len Bradley, director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “With marked spaces, traffic will be much more organized, and that will make this park a safer place to visit, too.”
