SeptemberFest Rescheduled, Coupled with Haunted School
Haunted School Oct. 22, 23, 29 and 30; SeptemberFest Oct. 29 and 30

While the official Halloween holiday isn’t until Sunday, Oct. 31, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30, will provide plenty of tricks and treats for Holly Springs residents. With both the Haunted Scarecrow School and the rescheduled SeptemberFest to enjoy, the Town-sponsored events are certain to offer something for everyone.

On both evenings, and on Oct. 22 and 23, the Hunt Community Center will be transformed into a Haunted Scarecrow School. From 6-7 p.m., children too young for the scares can visit in their costumes for face painting, candy, a hayride and a friendly lighted tour through the school. From 7:30-10 p.m., brave souls can take a walking tour of the school and see the principal, nurse, janitor and other haunted-school officials as they’ve never been seen before! After the tour, participants can take a hayride, visit the magician, get a snack and enjoy a free concert in the cafeteria.

Friday evening is Boogie Night at the Haunted School; a DJ will play popular music in the school cafeteria from 7:30-9:30 p.m. On Saturday evening, an adult costume contest will be held at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. First prize is a one-year free membership to the Hunt Center Fitness Room. Second prize is a fitness coupon book, and third prize is a pedometer and a personal FM radio/flashlight.

Admission to the event is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-15. The event is cosponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Town; all proceeds will be donated to local non-profits for children. Food and drinks will be sold for an additional cost.

Because of inclement weather in September, the annual Chamber of Commerce SeptemberFest was moved to Oct. 29 and 30. On Friday night, grills will be fired up in Womble Park to begin cooking for the barbecue competition. Fireworks will top off the evening.

On Saturday, SeptemberFest moves downtown and will be centered in front of Town Hall on Main Street. Festivities begin at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Holly Springs Baptist Church, sponsored by the Holly Springs Rotary Club. The 5K Hog Jog, begins at 8 a.m. at the Hunt Community Center and will be followed by a children’s race at 8:30 a.m. By 10 a.m., the festivities will be in full swing with arts and crafts vendors, children’s rides, live entertainment, a Civil War reenactment and the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. Barbecue sales will begin at 11 a.m. Parking for the festival will be at Holly Springs Elementary School, and Holly Ridge Elementary and Middle schools. A shuttle service between the schools and festival will run continuously.
