7/16/04 Holly Springs to be Represented on County Board While Wake County moves forward with plans to open a library in Holly Springs in 2006, the county also appointed Holly Springs resident Barb Sack to represent the town on the Wake County Library Commission. Sack, a 10-year resident of Holly Springs, is one of four representatives on the 14-person commission who does not reside in Raleigh. As a member of the commission, an advisory board to county commissioners and the county manager, Sack will attend monthly meetings during her two-year term. Duties of commissioners include recommending proposed library services and library locations. “It’s been neat to see this town grow, and I’ve been real interested in how it grows, too,” Sack said. “There’s something here for everybody. A library will really solidify the town; a library is for everyone.” The Wake County library in Holly Springs is scheduled to open in 2006 and will be joined with a Town Cultural Center that will incorporate visual and performing arts, including displays, classes and performances. The facility will be located in downtown Holly Springs on West Ballentine Street. Sack said she couldn’t wait for the new library to be completed. “Because of the performing arts center along with it, it’s going to be one-of-a-kind in Wake County,” she said. Five years ago, Sack began attending county meetings to determine where Holly Springs ranked in plans for future libraries and to show that Holly Springs was interested in having a county library built in Town. Sack also worked with the General Federation Women’s Club library in the Hunt Community Center and was involved with recruiting membership with the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. She says that, as a member of the commission, she looks forward to representing Holly Springs, helping with planning and keeping an eye out for any improvements that can be made at the Holly Springs library.
