4/30/04 Second Annual Kids' Appreciation Day to be Held May 15 With Mother’s and Father’s days just around the corner, it’s only natural to designate a day to celebrate children, as well. Holly Springs Town officials are declaring May 15 the Town’s second annual Kids’ Appreciation Day, and the Holly Springs Kiwanis Club is hosting the celebration from 2-4 p.m. at the Hunt Center, located off Stinson Avenue. The two-hour event is open to the public and includes ice cream and refreshments, music and karaoke, face painting, balloons, games, local VIPs, Terrific Kids awards, and more. The event is free, and children receive free food, refreshments and other goodies. “We were thrilled at the success of Kids’ Appreciation Day last year, where over 600 people attended,” said Linda Hunt Williams, Kiwanis Club of Holly Springs president. “It was obvious that kids sent us a clear message that they want this kind of recognition in our community. “We are excited about the future of Kids’ Appreciation Day; it is developing into a very positive tradition in Holly Springs that celebrates kids in a positive and uplifting way,” Williams said. “This says a lot for the values of Holly Springs’ community.” The event is cosponsored by the Town of Holly Springs and other community partners, and it will feature Holly Springs resident and WRAL anchor/reporter Laurie Clowers as master of ceremonies. Clowers will present awards to children nominated by schools and other community and civic leaders. “As a community we need to reward and acknowledge our children for all their hard work in reaching their goals and achieving educational excellence,” said Dick Sears, Holly Springs mayor. “We want them to know that they are important and we value them as the future of Holly Springs. “This is the Kiwanis of Holly Springs’ main fundraiser that funds numerous youth initiatives in Holly Springs; this helps kids!” Sears added. “It is events like this and the Youth Advisory Council that make Holly Springs a kid-friendly community.” Proceeds from this event will fund Kiwanis youth programs in Holly Springs. For more information, or to learn about becoming an event cosponsor, please call Williams at (919) 303-4898. The Holly Springs Kiwanis Club is part of Kiwanis International, which has more than 13,000 clubs in 79 countries with more than 600,000 members dedicated to serving children.
