Town Adding Additional Recycling Igloos, Cardboard Bin, Downtown
Due to Heavy Usage, Town to Expand Downtown Recycling Center

In March, the Town of Holly Springs set up a downtown recycling center with igloos for collecting common household recyclables. Because of the large amount of materials deposited at the recycling center, the Town is expanding the center, adding additional igloos and a bin for collecting cardboard.

“Although the recycling center is for recyclable items that are also collected at residential curbsides, we’ve had heavy usage of the downtown recycling center,” said Luncie McNeil, director of Holly Springs Public Works.

The downtown recycling center is located in the parking lot off Avent Ferry Road, across Ballentine Street from Town Hall. Common recyclable items – newspapers, magazines and junk mail; plastic containers; aluminum cans; and clear glass – are collected, and additional igloos for these items will be added this month. Also, a bin for cardboard will be installed.

The recycling center is not for depositing trash or non-recyclable items.

Refuse such as paint cans, motor oil, pesticides, tires, lead-acid batteries and other hazardous wastes should be taken to the South Wake Multi-Material Recycling Facility in Apex at 6000 Old Smithfield Road on the third Saturday of the month between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call the recycling facility at (919) 387-2126 for additional information; there is no charge to drop off materials at the facility.
