Holly Springs to Pave Last Town-Maintained Gravel Road
Estes Lane Paving to Begin in August

The Town of Holly Springs will soon begin paving the last Town-maintained gravel road, Estes Lane. Estes Lane is located at the eastern end of Grigsby Avenue, which runs past Womble Park near downTown Holly Springs. The remaining handful of roads in Town that are not paved are either privately owned or state-maintained.

“We are very pleased to pave Estes Lane and to accomplish a project that has been requested by the residents for some time,” said Stephanie Sudano, director of the Town’s Engineering Department.

Parrish “Ham” Womble, who supported the paving, said that travel along Estes Lane was difficult during inclement weather.

In a public meeting held last week, Town engineers explained that, in the paving, the road would basically remain the same width and grade. If driveways that connect to the road do not have drainage pipes beneath them, the Town will add the pipes during the project. In addition to the 18-foot-wide road, 20 feet on either side of the road, the Town’s right-of-way, may be accessed during the construction.

Once paving is complete, gravel driveways will be replenished with fresh gravel, and paved driveways will be resurfaced, up to the edge of the right-of-way. A gate at the end of Estes Lane will be erected as a safety precaution and to prevent unauthorized access to a dirt path that leads into private property. No trees will be removed as part of the project.

The Town will complete the project design by the end of June. After accepting bids from contractors, the Town plans to begin the paving project in August. Construction should be complete in one to two months.
