11/12/04 Detour for Holly Springs Road Section Scheduled for Nov. 20 A detour for a segment of Holly Springs Road west of its intersection with Main Street has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20, as construction crews continue work to widen and improve the intersection. During the road closure, construction crews will be working to lower the roadway elevation between Walgreens and Eckerd, a task that cannot be completed without temporarily closing the road to traffic. “While we realize that no time is convenient for a road closure and detour, we have set this work to be done on a Saturday to reduce its impact on commuters,” said Holly Springs Engineering Department Senior Engineer Kendra Stephenson. “Every effort will be made to limit the road closure to only one day. Weather permitting, this will occur on Saturday, Nov. 20. We encourage drivers to exercise caution around that intersection not just on that day but for the duration of the intersection improvement project.” The work on Saturday is part of a project to widen the intersection to create a four-lane, median-divided roadway cross section with a sidewalk. On the day of the detour, drivers who wish to travel west on Holly Springs Road through the intersection will be rerouted to Main Street/NC 55, Third Street and then to Blalock – around the intersection. The detour is expected to last all day.
