Town Now Accepts Credit Cards for Residential Fees

Holly Springs residents now have an additional option for paying utility bills – by credit card. Beginning in July, the Town is accepting payment for any residential fee via MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card, both over-the-counter at Town Hall and by telephone.

“We’ve had residents asking for this,” said Drew Holland, Finance Department director. “It’s great to be able to provide this additional service for our residential customers.”

Currently, the Town is accepting credit card payments for residential fees only, primarily utility bills and deposits, but also for deposits for irrigation meters and other fees.

Within a few months, the Town plans to begin allowing residents to set up their utility account to automatically charge their monthly fee to their credit card, similar to bank draft service. And, soon, residents will be able to pay for even more Town services via credit. This fall, the Town Parks & Recreation Department will begin accepting credit card payments for registration for athletics and leisure programs. Eventually, the Town also plans for credit card payments to be accepted via the Town’s website.

“First, we want to improve the efficiency of the credit card payment system and make sure that it’s running smoothly,” Holland said. “Then, we’ll expand the ability to accept credit card payments through the Internet.”

Town residents can still continue to pay utility bills in cash or check by mail or in person, either at the Finance Department collection desk in Town Hall or in the drop box in the Town Hall parking lot. Residents can also set up bank draft service, which automatically deducts the amount of the utility bill on the actual due date each month from a checking or savings account.
