Volunteers Needed to Fill Planning Posts

Interested in Town government? The Town of Holly Springs Department of Planning & Zoning works with two citizen committees – the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment – appointed by the Town Council to assist in making recommendations on proposed Holly Springs developments. Planning Board

The Planning Board is responsible for the review of development proposals, rezonings, and other development-related requests. It offers recommendations on these requests to the Town Council. The Planning Board also develops and recommends revisions and additions to the Town’s zoning regulations and Comprehensive Growth Plan in partnership with the Town Council and the Town’s planning staff. Although the board has no judicial authority, the Town Council relies on the Planning Board to offer guidance in the decision-making process. Planning Board meetings are open to the public and are held every fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Three in-town members with terms that run from Jan. 1, 2005, through December, 2007, and one extraterritorial jurisdiction member to complete a term ending in December, 2006, are needed.

Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment has quasi-judicial powers and acts separately from the Town Council. The board conducts public hearings and renders rulings on variances from the Town’s zoning and subdivision regulations. The board also hears any appeals to a decision made by the staff of the Department of Planning & Zoning. Board meetings are open to the public, and the board meets as needed, usually on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Holly Springs Town Hall . One in-town member with a term that runs from Jan. 1, 2005, through December, 2007, and one alternate extraterritorial jurisdiction member with a term that runs from Jan. 1, 2005, through December, 2007, are needed.

Applications are due to the Department of Planning & Zoning by Monday, Nov. 22, for consideration by the Town Council at its first meeting in December. Applicants should have an interest in the future of the Town, be available to attend committee meetings and live within the Town limits or the Town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
