Holly Springs Brochure Wins International Award
Economic Development 2004 Community Profile Brochure Gets Prestigious Accolade

The Holly Springs Economic Development Department’s 2004 Community Profile brochure was announced the first-place winner of an international award for the best special-purpose brochure from an area with a population of less than 50,000. The honor was bestowed by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) at its annual conference in St. Louis, MO. In addition to recognition, the Holly Springs brochure was displayed in the conference exhibit hall throughout the three-day event.

The IEDC is the nation’s largest economic development professional association with more than 4,000 members and annually hosts an awards competition for municipal and local economic development products and achievements. For the award Holly Springs competed with towns with populations up to 50,000 from the United States, Canada and Europe.

“This is fantastic,” said Irena Krstanovic (pictured at right), Holly Springs Economic Development coordinator who developed the brochure along with Jenny Mizelle, Economic Development director. “For a small town with a two-person staff and a conservative budget, we are quite proud to accomplish this.”

The Holly Springs Community Profile brochure is a foldout brochure geared toward businesses considering locating to Town. The brochure includes information about the Holly Springs Business Park, area biotechnology facilities and education/training centers and community services. The brochure also contains workforce data, listings of utilities and services, and Town demographics. The Town printed 2,000 at a cost of approximately $3,500. So far, more than a quarter of the brochures have been distributed to business prospects, recruiters, the NC Department of Commerce and other economic development partners.

Krstanovic, Holly Springs Economic Development Coordinator, came up with the brochure’s contemporary fold-out design. She and Mizelle worked together on the content of the brochure. Raleigh, NC, Printer Joseph C. Woodard completed the layout and printing.

Town Public Information Effort Wins Award

In other news, Holly Springs was awarded first place for the Holly Springs Recycles media campaign from the NC Association of Government Information Officers. The Holly Springs Recycles campaign included a website (www.thebin.us), news releases, flyers and a television commercial that encouraged recycling. Both Public Information Officer Tamara Ward and Town Clerk Joni Powell worked on the project. The television commercial can be viewed from the recycling website.
