OTHER ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

Advisory Board EmailsMary Beth answered the emails to the board for May and June thanking them for their comments. The emails were concerning the U8 Soccer draft and the issues of concern have been addressed by Parks and Recreation staff. Mary Beth will follow up with a response to the emails on the results and discussion by the committee on the matter.   Patty will handle email responses for November and Beth will take care of December.

Sports Commissioners – Libby wanted to know:  What is role of the commissioners? Do they interpret rules? Should participants know who they are?  How do you know who they are?

Len stated the participants should go to the coaches first, then to commissioners, and then to staff.  Participants can find out who their commissioner is by contacting staff and by looking in the handbook for their specific sport (currently being developed).  Commissioners can also be listed on the web for each sport.  Staff will notify commissioners that their names will placed on the web.

P & R Staff Listing – Staff for Parks and Recreation is listed on the Town website. You can also call the parks and recreation informational hotline (557-2939) to obtain a listing.  In August the department will hold an open house for the community to meet staff and learn about programs.

Coach Selection – How are coaches selected?  Coaches are supposed to fill out a coach’s application to indicate their interest.  Coaches are selected by staff and a background check is done. The application will be placed on the web under the Staff and Volunteer section for interested parties to download.  Johnny Dickinson will check on the how the process is being handled currently by the Athletics Division.
