Apex Survey Area 2: Surveys to be sent by Fall 2005. Surveys to affected postal customers are expected to be sent by the US Post Office in October but will not be effective until July 1, 2006 if approved.

After three years of working with the US Postal Service, the town of Holly Springs has encouraged the postal service to conduct a survey of properties both in Holly Springs and on county land near the Town that have an Apex ZIP code to determine whether residents would like to change their zip code to the Holly Springs 27540 code.

If more than 50 percent of the postal customers who respond to the survey vote in favor of the modification, the US Postal Service will notify residents of the change, which would not be effective until July 1, 2006 since there are more than 500 postal customers within the survey area. If the response is unfavorable, the town may be required to wait several years before requesting the postal service to conduct a new survey.

We recommend that you vote in favor of changing your zip code to the Holly Springs 27540 zip code because this change will provide:

  • Fastest Response Times in Emergencies: Your current misleading ZIP code may cause confusion when someone not familiar with area calls for emergency assistance requesting service from the wrong department. Delays in emergency response times increase the opportunity for tragedy.
  • Better Utility Services: New residents have received disconnect notices from electric, cable and gas companies because the ZIP code of their property was not accurate. Having a Holly Springs zip code will eliminate this confusion and frustration for new residents.
  • More Convenient Postal Services: If you had a Holly Springs ZIP code, you would drive 1.5 miles to pick up vacation mail, packages, or certified or registered mail instead of at least 8.5 miles to the post office that services your current zip code.
  • Ability to utilize Internet mapping: With your current ZIP code, internet mapping sites will not be able to find the location of your home if someone uses “ Holly Springs ” as the city since that is where you live. This causes confusion when requesting directions. Also, many companies rely on these mapping services and decline delivery to you since your home may not be able to be located since these services use mailing addresses to locate properties.
  • Improvements in Other Services: Because of the inaccurate ZIP code, residents in your area have experienced problems trying to register to vote, to sign up for Town recreation programs, to register their vehicles and to obtain a driver's license. Parcel delivery companies, such as UPS and FedEx, have refused to deliver packages to properties in your area because of the inaccurate ZIP codes. Residents have even had difficulty receiving annual property tax statements from the County because of the inaccurate zip codes.

This update was prepared by the Town of Holly Springs to inform those interested about the status of the zip code survey.
