Bass Lake offers boat rentals seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Rentals are weekends only from mid-March until Memorial Day and from Labor Day through the end of October. Canoes and jon boats with or without motors are available.

Only park-owned watercraft are allowed. For safety's sake, at least one person in each boat must be 16 or older. Always wear a personal flotation device whenever on the water.

Fishing is welcome in designated areas.  Everyone over the age of 16 must have a state license to fish.  Fishing licenses are available at retail locations including the Tackle Box and Wal-Mart.

Explore our interpretive trail on foot or by bicycle. Help us take care of the park by following the "Leave-No-Trace" principles.

History

Hurricane Fran breached the dam near the spillway in September 1996. The Town purchased the property from Cornell estate heirs in 2003.

Rebuilding of the dam and park construction began with assistance from Hanson Stone and Aggregate and from Progress Energy. Other sources included grants from N.C. Adopt a Trail and the Clean Water Management Trust Fund.

The park officially opened to the public on Oct. 1, 2004.
