Boating, Fishing & Hiking

Canoes and jon boats with or without motors are available for rental. Only park-owned watercraft are allowed. For safety's sake, at least one person in each boat must be 16 or older. Everyone must wear a personal flotation device whenever on the water.

Fishing is welcome in designated areas. Wake County residents and children 16 and under do not need a license to fish with natural bait. We've got free fishing gear for children.

Explore our interactive hiking trail. Help us take care of the park by following the "leave no trace" principle.

History

Hurricane Fran caused breach in the dam near the spillway in September 1996. The Town purchased the property from Cornell estate heirs in 2003.

Rebuilding of the dam and park construction began with assistance from Hanson Stone and Aggregate and Progress Energy. Other sources included grants from N.C. Adopt a Trail and the Clean Water Management Trust Fund.

The park officially opened to the public on Oct. 1, 2004.
