History Hurricane Fran caused breach in the dam near the spillway in September 1996. The Town purchased the property from Cornell estate heirs in 2003. Rebuilding of the dam and park construction began with assistance from Hanson Stone and Aggregate and Progress Energy. Other sources included grants from N.C. Adopt a Trail and the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. The park officially opened to the public on Oct. 1, 2004.
