Telecommunicator
Police Department
Position will be responsible for receiving and dispatching incoming public safety calls, maintain records of all communications, track officer calls and stops, provide data and research for emergency and law enforcement personnel, refer or resolve citizen inquiries, and answer non-emergency lines. Position involves frequent public contact requiring firmness and decisiveness in obtaining information, strong communication skills, ability to perform data entry with speed and accuracy, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Position requires a high school diploma and three years of directly related experience. Prefer DCI certification and previous experience working in dispatch or telecommunications. Public Works Streets Crew Leader
Public Works Department
Position will supervise and oversee the crew responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, roadways, and drainage areas. Duties include overseeing staff and crew on a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to, street repair and maintenance; storm drain maintenance; supervision of special seasonal collections and activities such as snow removal and leaf collection; street sweeping; supervision and evaluation of crew personnel; and assisting other divisions as needed. Position requires a high school diploma, three years of directly related experience and a General Roads Scholar Program certification. Must possess a valid NC Class A commercial driver’s license. Public Works Tech/FOG Program Inspector
Public Works Department
Position will work in the Collections Division of Public Works and will be responsible for oil and grease trap inspection and prevention services. Position will perform oil and grease trap interceptor inspections, prepare and maintain appropriate records and files, investigate complaints and take corrective action as necessary, ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. Position will also serve as ORC of the Collection System and perform Collections Division duties such as preventive maintenance, cleaning and repairs of town sewer lines; outfall and manhole inspections; new service installation; and other duties as needed. Applicants must have good organization and communication skills, both oral and written, as well as the ability to maintain accurate records and files. Position requires high school diploma, directly related experience working in water and sewer utility, Collection Grade II certification with the ability to obtain a Grade IV, and a valid NC driver’s license. Normal hiring range $32,319 - $36,000 based on experience. Open until filled.

Senior Water Reclamation Facility Operator
Wastewater Treatment Plant
This position will be responsible for operational and maintenance functions at the wastewater treatment plant. Duties will include monitoring the plant operations and making adjustments; performing general preventive and scheduled maintenance; collecting samples; preparing and maintaining records on plant operations; touring the plant and equipment for proper functioning; recordkeeping; and other related duties as assigned. Position requires graduation from high school, three years of work experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, possession of a Grade III Biological Treatment Plant Operator Certification wastewater treatment certification from the State of NC and a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Entire salary range for Senior Operator position is $39,286 - $60,894. Salary offer based on experience. Open until filled.

Laboratory Technician
Wastewater Treatment Plant
This position will perform standardized chemical and biological tests in the wastewater treatment plant laboratory necessary for the monitoring of municipal wastewater operations. Work includes the collection of samples; testing and analysis of wastewater, raw and treated, to determine the efficiency of treatment; completion of necessary reports and maintenance of records and files; maintenance of inventory of chemicals, solutions, required forms and other laboratory supplies. Position requires an associate’s degree in chemistry, biology or related filed and at least one year of laboratory experience. Requires the ability to obtain grade II wastewater certificate and class I Laboratory Analyst certification from the state of North Carolina within 24 months of hire. Normal hiring range $32,000 – $35,000 based on experience. Open until filled.

Event Assistant
Parks & Recreation Department (Cultural Center)
Positions will work primarily in the evening and on weekends assisting with various Cultural Center events. Duties may include greeting visitors and answering the phone, processing ticket sales, reconciling ticket sales and preparing sales report, assisting other staff, providing guest services, and assisting in closing the center in the evening. Hiring rate is $7.50 per hour. Hours per week vary on event schedule. Open until filled.

Planning Intern

Seeking a Planning Intern who will work under the supervision of the Senior Planner assisting the staff of the department on a variety of planning-related projects. Assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following: assistance and research in the development of a variety of special studies (US 1 Corridor Study, Wayfinding, Ordinance, and policy amendments), creating GIS data layers and maps for special studies; general planning office-related duties such as filing, copying and other clerical duties as needed and any other planning-related assignments integral to the daily operations of the Planning and Zoning Department. The successful candidate should be proficient in general computer skills (Microsoft Office), have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, and ability to work independently in a professional environment. Athletic Facilities Supervisor

Position will provide support to the Town’s athletic program with duties to include reporting maintenance issues, securing facilities, serving as a point-of-contact with the public, answering requests for information, troubleshooting difficult situations, and performing related tasks as required.
