Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan

Town officials want to make Holly Springs more pedestrian-friendly. Where do we need sidewalks and greenway trails? What deters people from walking? How can we encourage walking instead of relying so heavily on the car?

The Town is developing a comprehensive pedestrian plan with a grant from the N.C. Department of Transportation. You can help by sharing experiences and ideas.

Walkability checklist - Take the checklist on a typical walk through your neighborhood. Note things that might discourage someone from walking.

Examples of Topics the Plan May Address

• Creating an interconnected system of pedestrian corridors 
• Developing a pedestrian environment that provides confidence and safety to its users
• Promoting walking as an alternative mode of transportation
• Providing pedestrian access to underserved areas of the community

Schedule

The first public workshop was held in April 2006. The Engineering Department intends to have the beginnings of a draft plan by late summer 2006. Project completion is expected by early 2007.
