Ting Spotlight Vendor of the Week

  1. TING_LogoTag_web
This week's Ting Internet Spotlight Vendor is Wildest Dreams Farm! Here's a little about James & Barbara:

How did you get into farming, and how long have you done it? We love animals, and that passion developed into our farm. Raising pigs, chickens and goats as naturally as possible outside on pasture grasses and wooded acres the way our great-grandparents did. The way its supposed to be. Not living in confined stalls behind dark curtains, never seeing the sun or feeling the rain. Someone once told us that our pork tastes "Sweet"... and we told him that its because of mud holes, sunshine and fresh air.

James and I met in Alexandria, Virginia but moved to North Carolina where we started our farm 11 years ago. The farm has evolved over the years. We started with some chickens, three goats and two piglets (which fell off a commercial hog truck and ended up in our front yard) leading to a breeding program of Heritage Hogs, Broiler and Layer Chickens, and Dairy Goats. In our "Wildest Dreams!"

Our focus on the farm is to be able to bring healthy, affordable, clean food to the community. We want our customers to be able to make an informed decision about what they consume. Talk to the actual farmer who raised it.

What’s your favorite recipe to make with your products?
Grilled Pork Chops paired with some greens from the farmers market has to be our favorite weekend meal. Dry rubbed and seared to perfection with lots of "meat candy". You know those burnt little pieces on the edges? So delicious!

Duke Energy Spotlight Vendor of the Week

  1. DukeEnergyLogo4cweb

This week's Duke Progress Energy Spotlight Vendor is Good Grace's Dog Treats!

How did you get into the dog treat business? I got into the dog treat business by sheer accident. I had never baked a thing in my life! In 2008, there was a sudden recall of treats made in China that were tainted with salmonella so I decided to start making treats for my own dogs, and thought I would use the opportunity to integrate ingredients with specific health benefits into their diet. After lots of research and experimentation, I ended up with a LOT of treats and shared them with my friends at work. The following week, my friends reported that their dogs would no longer eat the store bought treats, so they would like to place an order!

Which particular treat seems to be your best seller? Everyone asks me which treat is MY dogs’ favorite, and my answer to that is always “whichever one is in my hand.” A lot of my regular customers do have certain treats that are their favorite, but I have found that every treat is SOMEBODY’S favorite. When I ask my customers which is the favorite, the most common answer is “All of them!”

What do you do for fun in your free time? In my very rare spare time, I enjoy spending time with my nephew, Henry, the love of my life. For fun that doesn’t involve blocks or mud, I have an amazing circle of friends with whom I enjoy hearing live music, playing pool, sailing, and walking our dogs.

Customers can place their order at www.goodgracestreats.com and use the coupon code DELIVERY. They will not be charged shipping and within two days their order will arrive at their home or office. The site also offers the ability to custom build their pups’ favorite mix, just like they can at the market. This service is available year-round! (They recommend NOT giving your dog the login information.)
