Ting Spotlight Vendor of the Week

  1. TING_LogoTag_web

This week's TING Internet Spotlight Vendor is South Chestnut Farm!

Roger started South Chestnut Farm in Chatham County on land that has been in his family for at least four generations. Inspired by stories of successful small farms from across the country, he envisioned an opportunity to manage a 60 acre cattle farm in a sustainable and environmentally-sound manner while producing farm products for local customers.

Today, South Chestnut places top priority on the health of their soil and grasses to produce eggs from pastured laying hens and 100% certified grass-fed beef from a small herd of Dexter cows. They use no growth hormones, no antibiotics, no pesticides and no synthetic fertilizers on any of their land. We practice “managed rotational grazing” to ensure our pastures are never over grazed, are properly stocked and kept fertile by an ever-increasing amount of organic matter.

To place guidelines on themselves and to earn the confidence of customers, they have earned certification from Animal Welfare Approved for the humane treatment of their animals, along with grass-fed certification for their beef from A Greener World.

This week's TING Internet Spotlight Vendor is Barnes Farms & Produce

How did you get into farming, and how long have you done it? Donnie got the farming bug from growing up on a tobacco farm. He got away from farming when he started his on brick mason business out of high school. But farming was such a large part if who he was, he always wanted to do what his heart loved. We started growing & selling produce 11 years ago. "Local Produce with Deep Roots" can be traced back to the early 1800's in Johnston County. While Donnie is still a brick mason and does it every day, he also farms full time.

What’s your favorite thing to make with your produce?
Grilled Cabbage, Sauteed Okra, Stewed Squash & Onions, and Fresh Dug Red Potatoes.

What do you do for fun in your free time? In the Winter we have a little more free time, so we catch up on all the things we don't have time to do from March to November. Farm auctions are Donnie's favorite!
