Crosswalk Safety Improvements

Project description:

Solar-powered flashing beacons, also called rectangular rapid flash beacons, are to be installed at eight crosswalks. The beacons improve crosswalk safety by alerting motorists to pedestrians on the crosswalk. Pedestrians push a button to activate the lights before crossing the roadway.

Beacons will be installed along Holly Springs Road near its intersections with:

  • Raleigh Street
  • Johnson Street
  • Cobblepoint Way
  • Middlecrest Way

Beacons also will be installed along South Main Street near its intersections with:

  • Center Street
  • Town Hall parking lot entrance
  • Ballentine Street
  • Oak Avenue

At each location two rectangular rapid flashing beacons and two advanced warning signs, which also include lights, will be installed. The town’s first beacon was installed at the Grigsby Ave. crossing near Parrish Womble Park.
